Telewest Not Able To Offer Broadband To All Customers

The digital services company Telewest has been rapped by the Advertising Standards Watchdog (ASA) for falsely suggesting that its broadband service was available to all of its customers.
The company aired a radio ad that suggested all customers in a Telewest area would be able to benefit from its combined broadband, TV and phone service for £30. In reality, nearly 4% of Telewest customers are unable to receive the digital service and therefore not eligible for the offer. Attempts by the company to argue that stating "conditions apply" would cover this eventuality were rejected by the ASA.

On the fourteenth day of February, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) plays its card of romance, warning online daters not to get taken in by scammers.
On online dating occurs when a scammer, male or female, creates a false profile and makes contact via an online dating agency or a chat room. The scammer professes that they are seeking romance or a soul mate: however, he or she of course only wants your money.
Kids Able To Access Adult Content On Mobile Phones

Kids are able to get hold of access codes to pornographic websites by sending a £1.50 text from their mobile phone.
Some websites holding adult content offer access to people who send a text to a premium rate number, costing upwards of £1.50. The website operator then replies to the mobile phone with the access code which is usually valid for a few hours.
The consumer watchdog Which? discovered that a phone registered to a 15 year old girl was able to get codes to eight websites offering pornographic content.
Way Cleared for Major Digital Mergers

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) today announced that it will not refer the proposed mergers of Sky and Easynet, and Telewest and NTL to the Competition Commission. The announcement removes any regulatory barrier to the mergers proceeding.
Sky is looking to break into the DSL market with its proposed acquisition of Easynet. This would enable the satellite broadcaster to extend its reach and provide its programming through standard broadband connections, removing the need for subscribers to install a satellite dish.
