Drink Driving Can Double Your Insurance Premium

We surveyed insurance premiums for a variety of drivers, then added a drink driving conviction. Premiums more than doubled in most cases, adding thousands of pounds to the financial penalties of being caught for most drivers.
Police forces in Scotland have announced a rise of more than 50% in the number of driving failing or refusing to take a breathalyser test in the Christmas campaign this year. A similar increase was recorded in the number of drivers caught drug-driving.
In addition to the well publicised risks of getting behind the wheel whilst unfit, we looked at the cost of insurance once you've completed your driving ban.
We found that you are likely to be paying more than double for your insurance for four years after you get your licence returned. For a £500 premium, this will see a penalty of well over £1000 adjusting for no claims discounts. For younger drivers this will likely be over £1000 per annum for the four year period.
